For many centuries, individual horoscopeshave been central to astrology. As a rule, particular points in time areanalyzed, whether concerning human beings, states, organizations, or mundane constellations. Currently, however, only two horoscopes can be conveniently compared to each other. Groups of three or more individuals quickly become difficult to master when conventional tools are used, andsuch groups therefore elude a systematic analysis.

What is essential for a systematic approach, however, is thesynthesis of relations within a group. Whether a family, a circle offriends, the department of a company, a party executive committee, agovernment, the G8 Summit, a football team, or a rock band, a group isalways more than the sum of its individuals or of the relations betweenany two members within it. To this end, I have developed a new astrological method that allows a synoptic view of up to 20 horoscopes:the Group Horoscope or Niederwieser RelationshipChart.

In this article, I present the basics of this innovative technique.I also demonstrate its practical application, using an example from mydaily work as an astrological business consultant: This case concernedthe research and development department of a medium-sized company, whichhad lost its talent for innovation. Finally, the article introduces awide range of further applications of the Group Horoscope.

Previous Tools of Group Analysis

Suppose a client tells you the following:“Something’s wrong in our research department. We havecapable engineers and technicians who all work assiduously and arededicated to their project plans, but at the end of the financial year welack innovative product developments. Can you help us?”
Once you are given the birth dates of the employees in thisdepartment, the madness begins: Astrology provides excellent tools fordecoding the individual character, the strengths and weaknesses of a person or an organization; likewise, the relations between two horoscopes, including their evolution over time (transits, progressions, directions, etc.), can be analyzed by having recourse to the traditionaltools. However, decoding the essence and dynamics of groupsastrologically is a much more difficult process. Dealing with three ormore persons becomes extremely laborious.

For situations such as these, astrologers have elaborated variousapproaches. Sometimes the network of relations is reduced to the sum ofrelations between two members: You can relate the head of the departmentto every single employee, or you can analyze problematic relationsbetween any two co-workers who don’t get along. But what isinherently wrong with the department will not be fathomed.

Venus Group Astrology

Other astrologers may spend hours delvinginto all the individual horoscopes, juxtaposed in front of them on a hugedesk or on a wall. With this kind of approach, you can reach your goalinstinctively, but you run the risk of neglecting important correlations,while spending far too much time on the matter.

Then there are the long-established tools of partner analysis: Onthe one hand, the Composite Chart uses the half-sums (ormidpoints) of the single horoscope factors of each partner to create anew horoscope. On the other hand, the Davison Relationship Chartcalculates the arithmetical mean of the time of birth and the coordinatesof the place of birth of two horoscopes. Both methods also have theirgroup variants, the Multi-Composite Chart and theMulti–Davison Relationship Chart. That way, as many persons asnecessary can be added at will, a conventional chart being produced atthe end of the process. While these horoscopes clearly show the essenceof the group as an entity, individual horoscopes totally disappear from the chart. It is impossible to initiate changes through organizationaldevelopment or systemic therapy (a special form of psychotherapy thatfocuses on the social environment of the client).

Finally, astrology software often offers multi-synastry,an extension of synastry. This type of graphic representation isperfectly suitable for two or, at best, three horoscopes. Although morethan three are possible, they quickly become confusing, thus making themunsuitable for a clear synthesis.

The Niederwieser Relationship Chart

Several years ago, I developed a new chart that is suitable forgroups of up to 20 members: The horoscopes of all participants areinscribed in the same zodiac, and each individual is assigned onespecific colour so that they can be distinguished from one another. Whenten or more persons are involved, the colours are supplemented bygeometric figures in which the planets are inscribed (e.g., planetswithin circles, triangles, squares, etc.), making it possible todistinguish them easily at first glance.

I recommend placing 0° Aries on the left as a fixed point.Alternatively, adherents of Uranian astrology can still use 0° Libra, ofcourse. If I want to highlight the relation of a particular person to therest of the group, I will use the conventional view and place thatperson’s Ascendant on the left, with the remaining horoscopes builtaround it.

To facilitate the navigation in Group Horoscopes, I recommend using acoherent colour scheme. I, for one, always use the colour black for thefocal person (the client, the head of a department, etc.). The colours ofthe remaining members of the group can be assigned according to theelement of their Sun sign (or of their Ascendant or Midheaven): red huesfor fire signs, blues for water signs, greens or browns for earth signs,and yellows or greys for air signs. This colour scheme is shown in the Group Horoscope for the above-mentioned research department. It is alsopossible to use warm hues for women, cool ones for men, or to adjust thecolour lightness according to the age of the person concerned (e.g.,darker tones with increasing age).

Suitable colouring frequently depends on the group structure. If agroup consists of a large number of people belonging to the same agegroup or the same sex, or having the same dominant astrological element,the latter examples will obviously not be appropriate for the colourscheme. If the group features various sub-groups — for instance, a focuson certain products (product segment A, B, C) or functions (engineering,research laboratory, prototype-building, design, patents, etc.), as inthe case of the above research department — this may be the most adequate criterion. There are no limits to the variants. You need only to make surethat your colour choice reflects your intuition, that it enables you tonavigate quickly and reliably across the Group Horoscope.

Generational Imprint

In the basic chart form, all factors are inscribed in theinner circle. In order to improve the visibility of the generationalimprint, I place Uranus (), Neptune(), and Pluto () in the outer circle. That way, the generational taskof the group members (how the group is connected to the zeitgeist) ismade evident. The inner circle thus features the personal dispositions:Ascendant and MC (when known), Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter,Saturn, and North Node — while the outer circle shows the cultural lens:how the group is embedded in trends and generations (the trans-Saturnianplanets). If necessary, I also add the relevant minor planets, such asEris for matters of competition, Nessus in cases of workplace bullying,or Makemake in creative groups.

A separate collective graph can also present an additional advantage,because for several decades there has been an overbalance on the righthalf of the zodiac. For the age group professionally active today (birthyears c. 1950–1995), Pluto is positioned between Leo and Scorpio, Neptunebetween Libra and Capricorn, and Uranus between Cancer and Capricorn. Ifall factors were inscribed in the inner circle, it would give theimpression that these signs are overrepresented. A separate collectivediagram has the useful side effect that the chart becomes clearer andmore comprehensible. (See Diagram)

The Focal Person in the Group Horoscope

In groups, there is very often a central person whom othersgather around. Most of the time, this is the founder or head of thegroup. In the above-referenced chart, we can see the department ofresearch and development of a medium-sized company. As is often the casewith astrological business consulting, only the person’s day ofbirth is available, and thus we do not know the person’s chart angles. The head of the department is mapped out in black. The Sun,Mercury, Mars, and Saturn in Capricorn attest that he is a very capableadministrator, a diligent, extremely reliable boss committed to thevalues of the company and devoted to its management. The dominance ofCapricorn makes him an ideal representative of his department, with anacute sense of each employee’s roles and responsibilities. Hetreats his co-workers with respect and upholds fairness in the workplace.The Moon and the North Node in Leo attest to his open heart for thepeople in his department. He grants them a lot of freedom, fights forhigh salaries and bonuses, and keeps inconveniences from them. “My staff members should be able to concentrate on their projects and must notbe disturbed while they work!”

The head of a department often plays a central role in therecruiting process; many of them choose candidates through the lens oftheir own horoscope, selecting somebody with whom they have affinitiesand to whom they are sympathetic, rather than somebody who would meet thebest requirements for the job. I have often noticed that particularlylong-time heads of departments build their co-workers around their ownhoroscope, as an extension of their own personality, so to speak. In thisGroup Horoscope, notice the striking fact that substantial clusters are formed around the department head’s Venus and Moon; manyemployees’ planets snuggle up to them.

A Research Department without Innovation

The central task of an R & D department is to developinnovations. The company’s products should constantly be adapted tothe needs of the customers, according to cutting-edge technologies.Ideally, the department functions as a pioneer and invents newtechnological solutions never before imagined.

This central task is represented by what I call “theinnovation zone of the zodiac” — the signs of Aquarius, Pisces, andAries. The creative potential of the undiscovered, from which new ideastimidly sprout like tender saplings, is located in Pisces. If new pathsare to be tried, someone has to venture into these mists and seas of theunknown. Following the path of causality (in the sequence of the zodiac),1 Aries propels this novelty into appearance and storms out into the world.He is a pioneer pushing the idea forward by playfully exploring andtesting, approaching the possibilities of implementation through trialand error. As the driving force of innovation, he brings new impulsesinto the group and starts new projects at its vanguard — often in achaotic zigzag.

Following the path of finality (in the zodiac’sopposite direction),2 Aquarius flies through the world of theseinnovations like a bird, making sightings of the current inventions,trends, and ideas circulating in the scientific community. He is alwayson the lookout for the extraordinary, for constructive new ideas he canuse for the improvement of his own developments. In astrology, inventive talent is often denoted by Aquarius or its ruler, Uranus. This is but halfthe truth: He is only the messenger collecting the innovations born inPisces and using them for building his inventions.

A research department should therefore have an emphasis onAquarius, Pisces, and Aries in order to have the capacity to develop trueinnovations. In the Group Horoscope, this sector is practically empty. Itis instantly noticeable that this R & D department will hardly beable to invent successful, innovative products.

Through his Jupiter in Aquarius, the head of the department mayhave a marked interest in the newest discoveries of the science world,and would be willing to spend more time with research. But he is burdenedwith organizational obligations to such a degree that this Jupiter ispractically paralyzed. Aside from that, the other Capricorn worker (ingreen) occupies the innovation zone with the Moon in Pisces and Mars inAries. Because of this person’s lower educational level, he nevermade it further than technical draughtsman, spending his time perfecting existing sketches and draughts. He lives out his urge for experimentationin his private workshop.

The remaining team members keep to trodden paths. Their productinnovations are mostly new combinations of established products in newcolours, new materials, and new packaging. The enormous concentration ofthe department’s planets in Leo is particularly striking. This iseven mirrored in its premises. The company’s other offices arecramped; however, thanks to “historical coincidences,” theresearch and development department is housed in a very big office withlots of space, where every employee has been able to build his own comfort zone. While hectic nervousness is king in the other departments,here people walk through the corridors at a dignified pace. There is adictum in the company, in accordance with the Leo cluster: “In ourcompany, R & D does not stand for research and development, but forrecreation and downtime.” Although this dominance of Leo can be anexcellent constellation for a marketing department, its contribution tothe central aims of the research department were negligible.

Approaches to Systemic Solutions

Ideally, such group deficits can be compensated by recruitingnew employees who have planetary clusters in the vacant zodiac areas. Butthe budget necessary for such a step may not be available. Still, thereare always solutions for improving the situation within the bounds ofpossibility. In this particular case, several screws had to beadjusted.

Some of the organizational tasks weredelegated from the head of the department to the Leo employee (in red),who revealed himself to be an excellent organizer and went about his newtask with great dedication. Thus, the department head had more time tokeep up with the newest technological developments and participate moreintensively in the research itself.

The employee (in green), who has his Moon and Mars in theinnovation zone, was entrusted with a project in the domain offoundational research. Despite his age, he was also given the opportunityto undergo further training and to regularly visit trade fairs andconferences. Similarly, he has grown into his new role and now constantlysurprises the team with unconventional ideas and pragmatic solutions thatnobody would have expected from him before.

Finally, since the in-house toolmaking department had to be closeddue to internal restructuring measures, the workers’ council hadnegotiated the transfer of at least three of the ten employees concerned.In an astrological pattern analysis, I immediately noticed two Aquariusworkers born in 1962, with enormous planetary clusters in this sign.

In private conversations, one of them turned out to be a rebelliousspirit, the source of regular conflicts, according to the head of thetoolmaking department (this employee was later fired). The other hadparticipated in the punk movement in his youth and had never graduatedfrom high school. Although starting a family had not been among hispriorities, it had nevertheless accidentally happened and tamed him; thecompany had subsequently recruited him as an unskilled worker. Due to hisfaculty for quick perception and witty ideas, he had managed to obtainthe position of deputy head of the toolmaking department. Privately, hehad gathered an impressive amount of knowledge over the years and baffledme with explanations of molecular structures and quotes from Nietzsche,among other things. It was worth a try. Thus, he was made an assistant inthe research department, where he thrived and became much more motivated.The company has even registered a patent in his name!

Other Applications of the Group Horoscope

I conceived the Group Horoscope in regard to the specificrequirements of human resources and organizational development. I alsorely on it regularly for market analyses, competitive analyses, and forthe positioning and repositioning of products and brands, for instance.The potential applications extend much further, though; the NiederwieserRelationship Chart is a helpful tool wherever interconnections of threeor more horoscopes have to be analyzed.

Venus retrograde vedic astrology. One important domain is systemic familyanalysis. The Group Horoscope can quickly reveal the family structureand internal relational patterns. It is fascinating to follow the familymembers’ ancestors and their entanglement over several generations.The Group Horoscope is also extremely helpful regarding love andrelationship issues: For those who repeatedly end up with the wrongpartner, a Niederwieser Relationship Chart involving all previouspartners is very useful. It quickly reveals the search patterns that onehas followed unconsciously.

A third example would be mundane astrology: The synthesis of manyhoroscopes is often indispensable, but has so far been verytime-consuming, particularly in this domain. Group Horoscopes of the mostimportant geopolitical states and politicians, of the parties or thegovernment in a particular country, or of the leading companies in aparticular sector represent a massive improvement in ease of analysis. Atone glance, you can realize who has been most affected by the recent Saturn–Neptune square, for example, and who is the most probable“carrier subject” of this constellation (mundaneconstellations need carrier subjects to realize their potentials intoactual events).

I will present this and numerous other applications of theNiederwieser Relationship Chart in more detail in the future. In themeantime, I would like to encourage you to experiment on your own withyour circle of friends, family, co-workers, even important points in timein your own life. Although astrology has been centred on single persons,organizations, and events, now the vast world of synoptic view lies openbefore you.

Five Elements of Chinese astrology are Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Wood. The Five Planets of Chinese astrology are the big five planets of the solar system. They are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The relationships between Chinese Five Elements and Big Five Planets in the Chinese Astrology are Venus in the Metal group, Mercury in the Water group, Jupiter in the Wood group, Mars in the Fire group and Saturn in the Earth group.

Before Han Dynasty, Five Planets have different names. Venus is the brightest planet in the solar system. Chinese called it 太白 Tai-Bai, which means super white. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. It travels very faster. Chinese called it 辰 Chen, which is the unit of hours. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. Ancient Chinese calendar used the orbital period of Jupiter to count the years. Chinese called it 歲 Sui, which means year. Mars has unpredictable position and unstable brightness. Chinese called it 熒惑 Yin-Ghou, which means unstable Fire. Saturn is far away from the sun. The orbital period of Saturn is around 29.48 Earth year. Ancient Chinese astronomy divided sky into 28 zones. Saturn roughly moves to each zone per year. Chinese called it 鎮 Zhen, which means town, staying in a place.

Yin Yang Five Element scholars and astronomers in the Early Han Dynasty (206 B.C. to 8 B.C.) applied Five Elements name for Big Five Planets. Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth are connected to white, black, green, red and brown respectively. The color of Venus is pale yellow. To human eyes, it's near white. Venus becomes the Star of the Metal. Mercury has dark-gray. Mercury is the Star of the Water. Everything visible on Jupiter is a cloud. Jupiter has orange and white bands. Stems and Branches are the counting elements in the Chinese Stem-Branch calendar. We don't want to discuss Chinese Calendar there. We want to discuss the relationship between the planets and Chinese astrology birth chart.

The Chinese character of the Sun is 日, which derived from the pictographic character of . The character of calendar's Day is 日, too. The Day is the counting time of the Sun passing the sky because of the self-rotation of the Earth. Therefore we can put the Sun on the top of the Day Column of the astrology birth chart. Chinese Astrology is the application of Yin Yang. Yang is male and Yin is female. The heaven (Sky) and top are Yang. The ground and bottom are Yin. Therefore, the Sun is Yang and the Earth is Yin. The Sun is on the top of the Earth. We can put the Earth under the Sun.

The Chinese character of the Moon is 月, which derived from the pictographic character of . The character of calendar's Month is 月, too, because Month is the cycle of the Moon. The Moon is close the the Earth. Therefore, we can put the Moon next to the Earth in the Month Column.

Mars is next to the Moon. We can put Mars, the Star of Fire , in the Year Column. Jupiter is next to the Mars. We can put Jupiter, the Star of Wood , on the top to Mars. Jupiter is far away from the Sun. It takes 12 Earth years to make one trip around the Sun. That means one year on Jupiter is 12 years on earth. Ancient Chinese Five Star Calendar uses Jupiter to measure the year. The Chinese character of the Year is 年 Nian. Before Chou Dynasty (1122 B.C.), Chinese used 歲 Sui for Year. Once Chinese astronomers treated Jupiter as the Start of 歲 Sui. Therefore to assign Jupiter on the Year Column should be correct.

Saturn is next to Jupiter. We can put Saturn, the Star of Earth , next to Jupiter on the top of the Month Column.

The Chinese character of the Hour is 時, which combines day 日 and temple 寺. Ancient Chinese temple announced the clock time by hitting the temple bell. Venus is next to the Earth. We put Venus, the Star of Metal , in the Hour column. Chinese called Mercury 辰 Chen, which is the unit of hours in Chinese. Mercury is next to Venus. We put Mercury, the Star of Water , on the top of Hour Column. In this way, Mercury is also close to the Sun.

The Fire of the Sun is the mother element of Earth of Saturn. The planets of Uranus and Neptune are behind the Saturn. The color of Uranus and Neptune are pale blue. They are in the Water group. That implies Saturn contains invisible Water. A Tree (Wood) needs Water and Earth to grow. Saturn contains the mother element of Wood of Jupiter. The major five planets of the solar system allocated in the Chinese astrology birth chart are in a harmony mode of Five Elements.

Cycle of Life and Four Seasons

Wood (plants) and human being have a similar life cycle, which is connected to four seasons. Five Elements have a relationship with seasons too. Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water connected to spring, summer, season changes, autumn and winter respectively. Plants grow leaves in the green spring and bloom in the hot summer. Dry autumn is the harvest season and cold winter is the withering period. The spring and summer are growing period. The autumn and winter are connected to the old age.
